Woodlawn Croquet "Big Lobster" Tournament

For all you Big Lobster fans, this year's edition will be held from Tuesday, September 5 through Sunday, September 10, 2023. The opening reception and dinner will be on Tuesday evening at 5PM and play will commence at 8AM Wednesday morning and the finals will conclude around 2PM on Sunday.

The format will be similar to all the previous Big Lobster Tournaments, 9 wicker doubles and 6 wicket singles which are USCA sanctioned. The 9 wicket doubles will be played on Wednesday and Thursday on 4 courts at Woodlawn in Ellsworth and will utilize the Big Lobster Rules which will be sent to all participants. We can accommodated 40 players in 9 wicket doubles and each team will play 6-8 games over the two days with the winners being decided by the results in the block play. We will have two flights in doubles and awards will be presented to the top two teams. We will make every effort to find partners for those without a partner who would like to play doubles.

Six wicket singles play will commence on Friday morning at Woodlawn in Ellsworth, Sorrento Croquet court in Sorrento, and the Hinckley Court in Manset. We can accommodate 32 players in six wicket singles in probably four flights. Qualifiers from the 6 wicket block play will go into a playoff round with the championship games being played on the Woodlawn Croquet court on Sunday. Awards to first and second place in all flights.

From preliminary inquiries, we expect to have considerable interest in the Big Lobster so it is imperative to get your entries in ASAP. This is a great chance to play lots of croquet on the coast of Maine in September---THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE. The typical amenities for which the Big Lobster is famous will include the following: opening reception and dinner, continental breakfast courside each morning, courtside lunches each day, lobster dinner with all the trimmings, beautiful September weather, lobster themed favors, unspoiled vistas, and friendly croquet club member who will aid you off the court and try to beat you on the court. Accommodations information will be sent ot all who sign up.
