From BangorTake I-395 East to US-1A East. Stay on 1A for 22 miles, then turn right onto Main St./US-1. After passing through the downtown area and cross the bridge, stay left toward ME-172. A quarter mile after the fork, Black House Drive will be on your right.

From MDI/AcadiaTake ME-3 East off of the island toward Trenton and Ellsworth. Turn right onto Myrick Street, then left onto US-1 South. In just over a mile, turn left to stay on US-1 South. After passing through the downtown area and crossing the bridge, stay left toward ME-172 East. Black House Drive will be on your right a quarter mile past the fork.

From Blue HillHead east on Main St. Stay left toward Surry/Ellsworth on ME-172 North. Stay on ME-172 North for 13 miles. Black House Drive will be on your left. Look for the entrance after seeing the house on your left.

When is the Black House Museum open?Guided and audio tours are offered seasonally from July to September. Check the Museum tab for specific hours and days.

How do I book a tour of the museum?There are different types of tours offered. There are guided tours, self-guided audio tours and behind the scenes tours. Check out the ticket button for more information about the tours.

How do I book a group tour?Please email info@woodlawnmuseum.org or call 207-667-8671 to arrange a private group tour. Please give us ample notice so we can plan accordingly for your visit.

When do tour tickets go on sale?Guided tour tickets for the 2024 season are available for purchase on the event page of the website. Audio tour tickets can be purchased when you visit.

Can I buy my tickets when I arrive?Yes, we try to make sure there is always room for a few drop ins. However, if the tour is full, walking the grounds is delightful while you wait for the next available tour. Please plan ahead to make sure we can accommodate you!

What is the cost of a ticket to tour the museum?Guided Tours: - $15 adults - Children under 16 are free - Free for active military and their families Audio Tours: - $10 adults - Children under 16 are free - Free for active military and their families

How long does it take to tour the museum?Guided tours are 45 minutes to 1 hour and the audio tour takes about 30-45 minutes. Behind the ropes tours last about 2 hours with some time for refreshments.

Is the museum accessible?The first floor of the museum is accessible to all guests regardless of mobility; however, the second floor can only be reached by climbing a set of stairs. We do offer a highlight book of the second-floor spaces for guests who cannot see it in person. There are no bathrooms in the museum. The Barn has accessible toilets.

Can I take photographs in the museum?Non-flash, non-commercial photography is allowed in the museum. We do not allow video, selfie sticks, or tripods in the museum for the safety of the guides, other visitors, and the collection.

Do you have a place to leave bags during the tour?We do not allow large bags or backpacks in the museum during tours due to the possibility of bumping into items in the collection. We do not have a place to store them during your tour.

Are strollers allowed in the museum?Due to limited space in the hallways, we do not allow strollers in the museum. We do not have a place to store strollers during your tour.

When can I visit the trails?The trails are open every day from dawn to dusk.

How long are the trails?Woodlawn trails are level and easy walking. There are just over two miles of looping forest trails and a further one mile of mowed paths around both the North and East hay fields.

What is your policy on smoking/vaping?Woodlawn is a smoke-free campus. This includes all buildings and grounds.

Is the Woodlawn campus dog friendly?Dogs are welcome on the trails and grounds from dawn to dusk if they are leashed. Please pick up any waste and place in the proper receptacle. We provide doggie waste bags on the trails.

Is there sledding at Woodlawn?Families have been sledding on the front lawn for nearly 100 years. We offer a sled library for those who may be visiting and don't have a sled! If there is snow, there is sledding at Woodlawn.

Can I ice skate on the pond?The small pond has been a skating spot for many years and we keep it cleared when the ice is safe. Watch for signs on Facebook and in the parking lot that indicate if the pond is open for skating.
