Near the turn of the 20th century, George Nixon Black Jr. started playing croquet on the southern lawn at Woodlawn. Over 100 years later, The Woodlawn Croquet Players put a tournament sized croquet court on the southern lawn. Since 2007, Woodlawn has been home to Maine's only tournament sized croquet court. Play is seasonal from May to October, with a variety of playstyles. Every June and September, Woodlawn hosts tournaments sanctioned by the USCA that are attended by players from around the country.
