Paper Birch
(Betula papyrifera)

  • Deciduous

  • Height: 60-70 feet

  • Trunk Diameter: 1-2 feet

  • Bark: the outer surface is white while the inside is orange; the bark separates easily from the trunk and limbs

  • Leaves: alternate, oval and 2-4 inches long

  • This tree species was once used to make clothespins and toothpicks

  • Indigenous name: masqemus
