Red Maple
(Acer rubrum)

  • Deciduous

  • Height: 50-60 feet

  • Trunk Diameter: 1-2 feet

  • Bark: young trees are smooth and light gray while on old trees the bark is dark gray, ridged and has plates that are scale like

  • Leaves: light green and are found in a opposite pattern on the branch, 3-5 inches long with 3-5 lobes which are v shaped

  • Fruit: wing shaped and ripens in spring or early summer

  • Flowers: red and found in the springtime

  • Indigenous name: sonaw
