Bark: young trees are smooth and light gray while on old trees the bark is dark gray, ridged and has plates that are scale like

Leaves: light green and are found in a opposite pattern on the branch, 3-5 inches long with 3-5 lobes which are v shaped

Fruit: wing shaped and ripens in spring or early summer

Flowers: red and found in the springtime
