The Woodlawn Croquet Club cordially invites you to play in the 1st Annual WOODLAWN VACATIONLAND GOLF CROQUET TOURNAMENT. This will be a four-day event with play commencing on Thursday August 10th, 2023 and running through Sunday, August 13th on courts at the Woodlawn croquet court in Ellsworth, the Sorrento Croquet Club in Sorrento and the Hinckley Farm in Southwest Harbor. The courts will open for practice at Noon on Wednesday, August 9th. This is a USCA sanctioned event and will begin with a Waterford Doubles competition on Thursday followed by Singles play in Championship, First, and Second flights on Friday through Sunday. It will be a challenging and fun-filled four days of competition. The Tournament Director will be Tim McCormick and he will place players in flights according to their official handicaps. Participation will be limited to 24 players.

Block play matches on Friday and Saturday will be 13-point games. Finals for each flight will be held on Sunday at Woodlawn and will be a single 13-point game. Games will follow the United States Croquet Association Official Golf Croquet Rules, Sixth Edition (March 2022). Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each flight.

Flights will be determined by a World Croquet Federation D grade. If a player does not have a WCF D grade, a USCA member's handicap will be converted to a WCF D grade, or a provisional WCF D grade, may be assigned by special arrangement with the tournament referee. Flights will be determined by the number of participating players and their D grades. Flights will be determined by the Tournament Director and Managers. Finals in each flight will be determined by the Tournament Director and Managers at the conclusion of block play.

Dawson balls will be used in all games. The first player/team to score seven hoops wins the game. If no player/team scores seven points in the timed 75-minute game, each ball has two more shots. If the score is still tied, complete the next hoop in the correct order. Matches will be double banked. When double banking, match A will begin in the starting area. Match B will follow fifteen minutes later or until match A has cleared hoop two. Time out for interferences may be called in the last 10 minutes of the match. In the event of disputes, the decision will be made by the court’s acting Tournament Director and is final.

On each day of play, a continental breakfast and light lunch will be provided. 

An Opening Reception, with refreshments and hors d’oeuvres, will be held at the Woodlawn croquet court from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 9th. Casual Dress, which includes Croquet Whites, will be in order. Thursday and Saturday evenings will be open, allowing everyone to enjoy the interesting and varied restaurants in Down East Maine.

On Friday, August 11th, a plated dinner will be held at 6:30 P.M. at a location to be announced later.

At noon on Sunday, a barbecue lunch will be served at the Woodlawn court.
