About the event
Are you interested in learning more about Maine’s forests, and how foresters take measurements to monitor the conditions of our forests?
Join Maine Forest Service District Forester, Steve MacDonald, for a FREE three day (April 7/9/14 from 10AM-12PM) workshop for homeschool students in grades 4+ focused on learning about the forest. We will use a FERN (Forest Education Research Network) plot at Woodlawn as the classroom to learn how to measure and identify trees, collect data, consider the health of the woods, and discuss how the forest may change over time.
At each of the 3 sessions students will learn how to identify common tree species in Maine, as well as learn how to measure the trees, and collect data about the forest. As time allows other forest related topics may be covered.
