About the event

This talk will explore the historic apples grown in downeast Maine and the traces of cidermaking history. Bringing together archival work, DNA research, and historical research the talk will examine the place of apples in local foodways and agricultural practices.  Because apples were so important to the local community as food, a source for vinegar and cider as well as food for animals, this talk will examine how it all fit together.  We will also discuss recent heirloom apples found around the area as part of efforts to preserve this important historical legacy.

This session will be presented in person with the option of attending via Zoom.

Light refreshments will be provided for those joining in person.
